giant’s causeway 3

Rain threatened so we took the car to the Republic on the ferry and drove round the Inishowen coast and for a short moment were the most northerly two people in Ireland. Then on to a famous waterfall, (one of the, probably) smallest churches in Ireland, ending up in Derry – interestingly without either of us spotting where the border was.

Turned out that it was the first day of Derry celebrations, so we had Martin McGuinness on stage saying how he’d been rung by Ian Paisley and they had both agreed that the best day in their whole lives had been hearing that Derry had been chosen as City of Culture. All sorts of traditional and not so music all over the city – including a 14-piece family band, complete with children on accordions and crossy-ankle dancing.

That is an exceptionally fine section of paving. Sometimes looking down is more rewarding than looking up.

Although it’s actually a wall of a church, so I wasn’t being quite so observant as all that… I should have captioned it. It was very lovely. Looking up can be good too – do you know the beavers which sit on top a building in Oxford Street roughly opposite the Plaza?
