I read about this a couple of years ago and have been intending to go ever since. The pub is by the canal, and the band plays downstairs. It’s like the old days – free, reasonably priced drinks, not too crowded, not too hot, and a set of seriously good musicians having a wonderful time. There’s Ronnie Gordon, a jazz/ska/reggae original singing from his wheelchair, virtually unmoving apart from the voice; Mick Eve and Bud Beadle who have played sax with dozens of big names; Winston Delandro on lead, (Bob Marley, Gonzales, Alli Campbell’s UB40); Kuma Harada on bass (Mick Taylor amongst others)… and others – the line-up changes according to who is away touring. I shouldn’t have left it so long.

The picture is Robin’s – using the new lens. I stupidly forgot my sketchbook. Next time.
