… and this is the other half of the ‘synthesis of old and new’, also designed by Zaha Hadid. The extension is, it seems, only a smart restaurant and has no visual connection to the gallery – it’s just stuck on the side, rather clumsily. As the extension goes it’s rather a case of ‘because I can’ – Hadid is really a sculptor, and the trouble with that is the size of the works, and their permanence.
That said, it’s pretty when you’re inside it…
