Exploits in Istanbul 10.1

Last day mopping up – up the Galata tower, partly because it’s there, and it’s old and it has a great view, and also because it’s our local tower, and we wanted to see our apartment from the top. We’d hung a red pillowcase on the balcony, but it wasn’t hard to spot the place. Then off to the hamam. We chose an architecturally interesting one and sweated and doused and were scrubbed and bubbled and wrapped – wonderful. But no pictures allowed. A bit of shopping, with some drawing and sign language required to find something we’d seen previously but had vanished from the stall. A last fish sandwich by the fish market, booking for a meal tonight and back to the flat. And then there was just time to draw the konak (free-standing wooden house) we can see from our apartment window, which I’ve meant to do since we got here.
