messing about in boats

Lunch with Tim and Jenny – Albert (72ft wooden canal boat with original 2-stroke engine, chonk……. chonk……. chonk) is on a mooring near Maidenhead. We went half a mile upstream and moored on a little island. Tables and chairs were passed through the windows (sadly, no pictures of this operation); flowers were picked for the table and a fantastic lunch was consumed. Afterwards Tim and I swam round the island (a surprisingly strong current, and cold after all the rain), accompanied by safety cover in the form of Robin in the tender* (after he had capsized getting into it).

* a (slightly) larger version of Robin’s childhood boat, Sprout – a 5-foot-long Prout’s wood and canvas folding boat.
