Istanbul is probably the least bike-friendly city I’ve been to – evil hills, scary taxi drivers, unusable pavements for pedestrians and cobbles and potholes for all. So it’s surprising how many bike shops there are. We found the best today as we crossed the road to get to the aqueduct at the top of the hill in Sülimaniye – the whole underpass is completely filled with bike shops, and since it was the weekend, lots of little children trying out their new purchases in one of the few flat spaces in the square above. The aqueduct is very fine, too.
