On a brilliantly bright Sunday to Two Tree Island, one of the few places we’d not yet been to on the Essex coast out of London. It’s a bird sanctuary, has a knee-friendly path all the way round and is very flat. But the tide was up, so it was an island rather than a mud-view, and really very lovely.
It had some very fetching scum, too.
And then we came across Leigh on Sea, sandwiched between the railway and the sea, a proper village with fishing smacks and seafood stalls and the appropriate number of pubs (four within about two hundred yards). Totally wonderful, including the beach.
